COM 115 - Introduction to Human Communication

Course Description: This course provides an introduction to the study of human communication theories, concepts, models, and skills to develop greater communication competence, confidence, ethics and social responsibility to critically examine and evaluate communication practices in everyday interactions. Students explore elements of the communication model (message, sender, receiver, medium, etc.) and various contexts in which communication is likely to occur (the self, interpersonal, group, intercultural, and public). Further attention is given to the dynamics and application of verbal and nonverbal messages in various contexts, as well as how culture informs, influences, and shapes those interactions.

 

ISLOs: This course supports student development of Written and Oral Communications, Critical Thinking,  and Personal and Professional Development.
Prerequisite(s): Eligible for ENG 101
