PSY 123 - Developmental Disabilities

Course Description: This course offers an introduction to a broad range of developmental disabilities and related topics, including categories of cognitive, physical, emotional, and learning delays. The inclusion of children and adults into educational and community environments will be highlighted. Topics include the history of special education, the impact of the family, current and future trends, early intervention, transition, and the laws which govern the integration of children and adults in society.

ISLOs: This course supports student development of Written and Oral Communications, Critical Thinking, and Personal and Professional Development.

 
Prerequisite(s): Eligible for ENG 101.
General Education Elective(s): Behavioral Science
Note(s): This course has been approved to meet the Core Curriculum General Education Requirement.
In order for a student to be eligible to participate in an academic, community or clinical program that involves potential unsupervised contact with children, the disabled, the elderly, or other vulnerable populations, the student may be required to undergo a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check and/or a Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI)
