Program Description:
The Vascular Technology Certificate program is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge of vascular technology and to prepare students for taking the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), Vascular Physical Principles & Instrumentation Physics (VPI), and Vascular Technology (VT) examinations, and receive the credentials of the Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT). Areas covered include: peripheral vascular, cerebrovascular including transcranial doppler, abdominal and pelvic (arterial and venous), vascular physics and instrumentation.
Career and Transfer Outlook:
Students find career opportunities in hospitals, doctor’s offices and clinics. The present career outlook for graduates is extremely positive and not expected to change in the near future.
Helpful Hints:
Students with no prior medical training should complete a course in medical terminology.
Note: In order for a student to be eligible to participate in an academic, community or clinical program that involves potential unsupervised contact with children, the disabled, the elderly, or other vulnerable populations, the student may be required to undergo a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check and/or a Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) check. The outcome of the CORI/SORI check may impact the student’s ability to participate in clinical courses.
Program Outcomes:
Graduates of the Vascular Technology Certificate program are prepared to:
- Prepare patient for imaging and/or non-imaging vascular examination;
- Analyze and evaluate (by thoroughly investigating and producing appropriate images):
abdominal vessels with spectral/color Doppler
lower extremity arterial vessels
arterial blood flow in the lower and upper extremeties
carotid arteries
patency and blood flow in hemodialysis and peripheral grafts
venous blood flow of the lower and upper extremities
