Associate in Science in Liberal Studies

Bedford Campus and Lowell Campus - Day

Program Description:

The Information Technology Transfer Concentration Associate in Science, Liberal Studies degree program is designed to prepare students either for transfer to a related bachelor’s degree program, or for employment in a variety of entry-level information technology (IT) positions. The IT degree consists of a general education core curriculum common to all MCC degree programs, an IT program core that covers areas common to all IT careers, and the choice of either a transfer option or a career-specific concentration. The IT Transfer concentration is designed for students who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field, and has been developed in consultation with selected colleges in the region. This program qualifies for MassTransfer, which guarantees credit transfer to Massachusetts state colleges and the University of Massachusetts.  Qualified students may be eligible to participate in the IT degree Internship Program.

Career and Transfer Outlook:

Graduates of this program can anticipate either transferring to a bachelor’s degree program or beginning a career at entry-level employment within IT, depending on the concentration selected. Many industries base business systems on information technology. Entry-level employment in an area of IT design, development, administration, maintenance or other specialization related to the concentration selected is appropriate.

Helpful Hints:

Incoming students who already have computer literacy skills may begin taking the core courses as identified in the program. Students who do not have computer literacy skills, or who place into MAT 070 or lower on the college placement test, are encouraged to enroll in Exploring Technology (ITC 100).
