Description:
The Public Health Informatics and Technology option is primarily designed for students who are interested in Public Health Informatics and Technology and provides a direct transfer to the Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Health Sciences concentration, PHIT focus area at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML). This program curriculum was developed cooperatively with UML and funding for the Associate in Science, Liberal Studies, Concentration in Public Health Informatics and Technology is supported through the Enhancing the Health IT Workforce in the Merrimack Valley grant. The four-year grant cycle runs 9/14/21-9/13/25. The field of Public Health Informatics and Technology (PHIT) is focused on the business of collecting, storing, managing, analyzing, using and sharing public health data in order to more efficiently and effectively impact population health. Students who complete the three new PHIT courses will be eligible to obtain a micro credential from MCC. The transfer option is designed for students interested in transferring to a four-year institution with a direct articulation into the Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Health Sciences concentration, PHIT focus area, at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML).
Career and Transfer Outlook:
Students who complete the micro credential may be eligible to be employed in an entry-level public health informatics position. Students who complete the AS transfer option would be eligible to transfer to a 4-year institution (UML) to continue their studies in the Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Health Sciences concentration, PHIT focus area.
Helpful Hints:
Most students in the Associate in Science, Liberal Studies, Concentration in Public Health Informatics and Technology program continue their studies toward a bachelor’s degree. Students should check the requirements of the transfer institution and meet with career and academic/transfer counselors at MCC for specific program planning.
