Description:
Students who complete the Media Writing micro-credential will learn the fundamentals of purpose, context, voice, technique, and structure for effective writing. They will develop the essential skills to craft and publish compelling media messages for print, broadcast, and online formats.
Career and Transfer Outlook:
Available as three, eight-week course bundles, or nine credit hours, micro-credentials are taught by industry experts and college professors. Upon successful completion, you will earn a digital badge that can be shared on LinkedIn. It will also create an official college transcript to document your earned academic credit. Courses can be completed in one semester and can lead to a certificate or associate degree at MCC.

Students who complete this Micro Credential are prepared to:
- Write effectively for different media platforms, such as print, broadcast, digital media, and social media, using appropriate writing styles and formats.
- Use proper grammar and syntax to produce clear, concise, and grammatically correct writing.
- Create engaging and compelling content that captures the audience’s attention and achieves the intended purpose.
- Conduct interviews using appropriate techniques to gather information and quotes for media writing.
- Edit and revise their own writing and the writing of others, using appropriate editing techniques, such as proofreading, copyediting, and substantive editing.
- Apply Associated Press (AP) style guidelines to their writing, including rules related to spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and abbreviations.
