Social Justice Advocacy Micro Credential

Description:

The Social Justice Advocacy micro-credential is designed to give students the knowledge to obtain employment in social service agencies serving populations, such as but not limited to: families in need, low income housing, victims and witnesses of crime, high impact crime areas, homelessness, serve racial and ethnic minority population and alike. This program is designed to be completed in two semesters. Students are encouraged to continue on to obtain an Associate’s Degree in Criminal and Social Justice. All the courses within this micro-credential will count toward the Associate’s Degree.

Career and Transfer Outlook:

Students who earn this micro-credential will have a more competitive resume to attain entry-level positions in social services/non-profit agencies as several agencies require ‘some college courses in the field’.

Helpful Hints:

Students must be eligible for English Comp I to enroll in this micro-credential.

Students who complete this Micro Credential are prepared to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of social, economic and political factors in a changing and evolving society.
  • Identify social problems in the United States and how they’re impacted by laws and policies.
  • Recognize and describe various aspects of the treatment of special victim groups: children; intimate partner violence; and victims of sexual assault.
  • Discuss the importance of class, race, age and gender - in understanding crime victims, victimization, and response from the criminal justice system and society.
  • Understand crime trends and policies to prevent criminal activity.

Total Credits: 12


Please note- All courses completed for your micro-credential count toward: AS Criminal and Social Justice.
