Program Description:
Students in the A.S. Studio Art program explore a range of mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art, and develop technical skills and creative problem-solving abilities. Students work closely with experienced artists and educators who will help them refine their artistic vision and support them as they develop their own unique style.
In addition to developing artistic skills, the program provides a broad-based education in art history and theory, helping students understand their context and evolution over time.
Career and Transfer Outlook:
The Studio Art Associate of Science Degree prepares students to transfer into a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program in art or pursue a career as an artist.
Students can pursue careers in illustration, visual design, industrial design, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, photography, and interior design.

Students interested in broader art and design instruction should consider the A.S. Visual Arts program, which prepares students to transfer into a Bachelor of Arts degree program in Visual Arts (including studio arts, photography, design, and media), Art History, or Art Education.
Program Outcomes:
Graduates of the Studio Art degree program will achieve the learning outcomes of the Liberal Studies degree. Additionally, graduates are prepared to:
- Proficiency in multiple art mediums and techniques.
- Develop and apply critical thinking skills to analyze and interpret artwork and to articulate and defend their own artistic choices.
- Develop and apply creative problem-solving skills to complex artistic challenges.
- Develop a professional practice, including how to manage a studio, market their work, and present themselves and their work professionally to potential clients or galleries.
- Develop a strong understanding of art history and theory, including the context and evolution of art over time, and an appreciation for art from different cultures and communities.
- Communicate ideas and artistic vision effectively, both through their artwork and through verbal and written communication.
- Create a portfolio of their work that showcases technical skills, artistic vision, and personal style.
- Behave ethically and professionally in accordance with the art industry standards.
