Associate in Science, Liberal Studies

Bedford Campus - Day and Evening

Program Description:

Students in the Graphic Design Associate in Science, Liberal Studies degree program will gain the knowledge and skills to design and produce professional-level projects that will prepare them to enter the graphic-design workplace and/or transfer to a college or university. These techniques are taught on state-of-the-art Macintosh equipment and software packages.

Career and Transfer Outlook:

Most students in the Graphic Design AS degree program continue their studies toward a bachelor’s degree. Students should check the requirements of the transfer institution and meet with career and academic/transfer counselors at MCC for specific program planning. Students completing the AS degree will gain the knowledge and skills to find immediate employment in graphic design firms, publishing houses, advertising agencies, and multi-media design firms.

Helpful Hints:

The courses in this program are designed to be taken in a specific sequence. In order to build the proper knowledge and skills, students should complete their art and design courses in the order listed. Meeting with an art advisor each semester will help students select electives to best serve their needs. Successful students spend extensive out-of-class time in MCC’s art studios and graphic design labs.

Graduates of the Graphic Design program will achieve the learning outcomes of the Liberal Studies degree.  Additionally, graduates are prepared to:

  • Use the creative process to plan and execute their fine and graphic design work;
  • Demonstrate their knowledge of the formal and expressive aspects of art;
  • Create effective visual communications that are responsive to the needs of clients and their targeted audience;
  • Articulate the concepts and theoretical ideas in graphic design and use those ideas to evaluate their own work and the work of others;
