Program Description:

The Studio Art Certificate program is appropriate for students intending to pursue a future degree program in art, or who choose art studies for non-career goals.

Career and Transfer Outlook:

Students with a Certificate in Studio Art may pursue careers in illustration, painting, photography and other art-related fields. Students may transfer studio art courses into a degree program at MCC or another institution.

Helpful Hints:

Students should meet with an art advisor to design a course of study that meets their needs, interests and background. Many Studio Art Certificate graduates continue to take additional courses to complete the Studio Art associate degree.

Program Outcomes:

Graduates of the Studio Art Certificate program are prepared to:

  • Use the creative process to plan and execute their artwork in a variety of media;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the formal and expressive aspects of art;
  • Articulate the concepts and theoretical ideas of art and use those ideas to evaluate their work and the work of others;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the technical skills and processes of various art media;
  • Complete a well-rounded portfolio.
