ETH 106 - Environmental Philosophy/Ethic

This course is an introductory study of the relationship of humans to their natural environment. This study will include a historical, philosophical, and comparative analysis of Western and non-Western philosophical views of nature. The course will explore such issues as: the value of nature, the land and all living beings, land and wilderness management, sustainability, species preservation, development and preservation, overpopulation, consumption and pollution, the ethical treatment of animals, global ethics and global warming, and our responsibility to future generations. There will be an “outdoors” component to this course.
