Energy Utility Technology

Program Description:

The Energy Utility Technology Certificate is a nine-month program designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the utility industry. The industry has forecast a strong need for new employees in the next several years for positions such as line workers, meter workers and substation maintenance personnel. The program includes courses that give students an introduction to the energy utility industry; knowledge of direct and alternating current circuits; generation, transmission and distribution of electricity; industrial safety; and computer applications. In addition, students will get hands-on experience at the National Grid training facilities in Millbury, Mass.

Career and Transfer Outlook:

Job opportunities nationwide include positions as maintenance and repair workers, electrical power line installers and repairers, first-line supervisors and managers, as well as overhead, underground and substation experts.

Helpful Hints:

Energy Utility Technology graduates can continue toward an associate degree and apply their credits from their certificate.

Admission Information

Eligibility for MAT 080, Algebra II, a minimum reading score of 68, and concurrent enrollment in or completion of Basic Writing (ENG 071), or eligibility for ENG 101.
