Associate in Arts, Liberal Arts and Sciences
Bedford Campus and Lowell Campus - Day and Evening
|
Program Description:
Students in the Creative Writing Concentration Associate in Arts, Liberal Arts and Sciences degree program are prepared for transfer to a college or university. This studio-academic program provides students with a foundational understanding of how writers craft works in fiction and poetry. The program also prepares students to begin marketing their own works for publication in a variety of formats. This program qualifies for MassTransfer , which guarantees credit transfer to Massachusetts state universities and the University of Massachusetts.
Career and Transfer Outlook:
Most students in the Creative Writing Concentration continue their studies towards a bachelor’s degree program in writing. Graduates are also prepared to write and submit or perform their works in the highly competitive, professional marketplace of freelance writing and performance. Students should check the requirements of the transfer institution and meet with career and academic/transfer counselors at MCC and at the transfer institution for specific program planning.
Helpful Hints:
Students who wish their program to transfer to UMass Lowell without having to take additional courses to meet graduation requirements there must take the Lab Science Option for the Liberal Arts and Science Degree in this configuration: One Lab Science course and One Non-Lab Science Course.
Students who wish their program to fit seamlessly within the UMass Creative Writing Option must either take four semesters of World Language here at MCC, or two semesters here and two at their intended UMass transfer campus. Currently, MCC offers more options here than some UMass campuses, so students should study a language here that has subsequent courses at the UMass campus of their choice in order to have the greatest flexibility.
Program Outcomes:
Graduates of the Creative Writing Concentration will achieve the learning outcomes of the Liberal Arts and Sciences degree, catalog.middlesex.mass.edu/preview_program.php
