Energy Utility Technology
Associate in Science, Liberal Studies
The Energy Utility Technology Associate in Science, Liberal Studies degree program provides students accepted in, or who have completed, the Energy Utility Technology (EUT) Certificate program with pathways to further education. In order to enroll in this program, students will be required to either have completed, or be accepted into and taking courses in, the EUT Certificate program. The degree program will consist of (in addition to courses in the EUT Certificate program) general education courses and five electives. The general education courses enhance the knowledge gained in other courses. The elective courses may be used to focus the student toward specific career areas related to the energy utility industry, such as engineering or business management.
Career and Transfer Outlook:
Job opportunities nationwide include positions as maintenance and repair workers, electrical power-line installers and repairers, first-line supervisors and managers, as well as overhead, underground and substation experts.
The EUT degree program is intended only for students who are accepted in, or have completed, the EUT Certificate program, or have substantial work experience in the energy utility industry. Students should work carefully with their academic adviser to plan courses and ensure they are choosing electives that forward their career plans and/or facilitate transfer to a baccalaureate program.
Graduates of the Energy Utility Technology program will achieve the learning outcomes of the Liberal Studies degree. Additionally, graduates are prepared to:
- Apply electrical-circuit theory and principles of electrical-power generation, transmission and distribution systems;
- Articulate additional electrical safety regulations and work procedures as apprentices in the electrical energy utility industry;
- Communicate results, decisions and ideas verbally and in writing in a clear, concise manner;
- Prepare clear and concise documentation of assignments and results;
- Apply time-management techniques effectively;
- Demonstrate problem solving by applying mathematically principles toward real technical problems.
