Medical Secretary CertificateAcademy of Health ProfessionsLowell Campus Evening and WeekendsProgram Description:MCC’s Medical Secretary Certificate program is designed as a continuation for students who have completed the Medical Receptionist Certificate program. The Medical Secretary Certificate program consists of 18 college credits, including both academic and career courses. It builds additional skills related to front office skills in a medical or dental office, including correspondence and mail, medical transcription, medical insurance and coding, arranging physician travel, scheduling surgeries, inventory management and payroll. Career and Transfer Outlook:Medical secretaries usually obtain employment in physician’s offices, clinics or hospitals. They may also work in laboratories, insurance companies and nursing homes. Hours are usually day or evening, and may include weekends. Graduates of the Medical Secretary Certificate program are qualified for entry-level employment as secretaries in a variety of health care locations. Students may find career opportunities in long-term care facilities, hospitals or clinics, or group or individual physician’s offices. Graduates of this program’s coursework will be able to move up the career ladder by taking additional college-level courses and meet requirements for other certificates or associate degrees in a health career.
