EDU 252 - Administration of Early Childhood Program


Course Description: A survey of topics essential to planning and administering a quality day care center. Licensing, financing, staffing and training, parent involvement, plant and equipment, advisory boards, community resources, and meeting the needs of the children enrolled as well as societal issues of day care will be discussed.
Prerequisite(s): Completion of EDU 101, EDU 153, and PSY 122.

Course Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Discuss the licensing processes for center or family-based childcare, design a floor plan of the center and justify the design using the MA EEC Regulations, including calculations of square footage, teacher to child ratios, and professional development training hours for staff. 
  • Create a $500K childcare center budget including income and expense categories commonly found in an ECE Center, including expected costs in your line items.
  • List licensing quality factors and create a PowerPoint illustrating the effects of standards on quality such as NAEYC Accreditation, QRIS, Advisory Boards, DLL and CDA in a Blackboard Discussion Board Forum and critique classmates by replying to two Discussion Board posts.
  • Discuss and debate the pros and cons of social current trends by using the NAEYC Ethical Code of Conduct for Teachers as the basis for your position.
