ANT 101 - Cultural Anthropology


Course Description: This course is an introduction to the study of contemporary and historically recent human cultures. Topics to be covered include theory, culture, research methods, communication, subsistence patterns, economic systems, kinship, descent, family, religion, art, medicine, globalization, and cultural change. 
Prerequisite(s): Eligible for ENG 101
General Education Elective(s): Behavioral Science
Note(s): This course has been approved to meet the Core Curriculum General Education requirement.

Course Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Discuss basic cultural anthropological topics such as: anthropological theory; culture; language and other forms of communication; subsistence patterns; economic systems; kinship; descent; family; religion; art; medicine; globalization; race; ethnicity; and cultural change
  • Evaluate research methods, designs and research ethics in cultural anthropology
  • Connect cultural anthropological concepts to real-world examples and situations of social responsibility
