DAS 103 - Dental Materials & Procedures
Course Description: This is an introductory course in material science in dentistry. Emphasis will be infection control and safety precautions, physical and biological properties, and the manipulation and clinical application of these materials. Students will develop and demonstrate safe and effective manipulation of the dental materials in the practical component of the course.
Prerequisite(s): Completion of DAS 101, DAS 102, DAS 104, DAS 105, DHY 152
Course Student Learning Outcomes:
- Apply their knowledge of the physical, chemical properties and biological considerations of commonly used dental materials during selection, preparation and placement of those materials in the clinical and laboratory settings.
- Demonstrate infection control and safety practices in dealing with dental materials and proficiency in utilization and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of current dental technologies and legitimate dental technology resources.
- Utilize safety data sheets and technical manuals of materials to maintain the minimum standards of dental materials set by regulatory agencies.
